HOW TO LOWER YOUR PROPERTY TAXES. HOMESTEAD TAX EXEMPTION

If you bought a home in Texas in 2021 and it is your principal residence, don't forget to file an application for a homestead tax exemption by April 30th. Filing is free and in some counties, you can file online. I recently sent all my clients who bought homes last year the appropriate form and a self-addressed stamped envelope for them to mail to the appraisal district, making it easier for them to file their exemption and thought I would share with anyone else that also bought a home.

Planning on buying a home in 2022? The good news is that starting January 1, 2022, you no longer have to wait for the following year to file for your homestead exemption. In the past, you had to wait until you had lived in your home on January 1st in order to file an exemption for that new year. Check out the local county website for the exemption application and details, especially if you may be eligible to file for other exemptions as well.
